Hometowns are something like parents. We only have one set of parents, and only one hometown. Wherever we travel, wherever we relocate, whenever we're asked; "Where are you from?", we always say the name of the town that was home when we grew up. My hometown is Raytown, Missouri. I grew up there and lived there for 40 years before moving to four or five different states. Raytown was always home wherever I was.
If you were lucky enough to grow up in Raytown in the 1940's, 1950's or 1960's, you were among the luckiest people in the world. Hometowns, like parents, help shape what and who we are. It so influences us as individuals we are permanently a part of them and therefore owe them in many ways some of our successes and failures forever.

Our museum is unique in that we offer an extensive research center which contains the history, both written and in pictures, of Raytown and many of the families who have lived here. We invite the public to visit our research center and encourage families of the Raytown area to share your families history with us.
The public is invited to visit the Raytown Historical Society Museum. We honor our past with many fine displays and printed information on the Raytown Community, its people, its schools, its government, and its churches.
The Raytown Historical Society was incorporated in 1966.
