THE 1849 TRAILS THROUGH
RAYTOWN
The Santa Fe, California and Oregon Trails came through present day Raytown.
Starting at the trails entrance to Raytown at today's 51st and Blue Ridge Blvd., the trails went southwest to Woodson Road.
At Woodson Road the trails turned south and proceeded to 58th Street where it again turned southwest to 59th Street.
The trails continued west on 59th Street to Northern where they again turned south to 63rd Street. At the intersection
of 63rd and Northern the trails turned west through the heart of Raytown. Heading on west to Elm where the trails again
turned south to 64th Street where it turned westward again to Rose Lane. At this point the trails curved around Rose
Lane to the Rice Plantation where it made another turn south continuing past the Barnes Enclosure (today's Cave Spring) before
heading on out onto the Blue Prairie in a southwestwardly course.
Raytown is truly
a premier location of the old trails. Come visit our historic sites and learn more about our nation's westward expansion.
